Clocks going forward means only one thing...
With the clocks going forward, it means only one thing.......lighter evenings. What can’t be promised is better weather, but there is a feeling of summer just around the corner!
Commercial Manager steps down
After nearly three years with us, we recently received the news that Gerwyn Owen will be stepping down from his role as Commerical Manager at Hafan Pwllheli. His time here will come to an end in the next couple of weeks.
Said Gerwyn: "It’s been a pleasure working alongside you all during this time and I wish everyone at Hafan Pwllheli and those associated with the harbour area success in the future."
In the meantime, if you have any enquiries please contact Sarah Hattle, our Deputy Manager and Harbourmaster.
Selling of red diesel
We are currently reviewing the selling of red diesel through our self-service fuel quay. Following a visit from HMRC recently, we are working with them to identify the appropriate practices required in relation to the selling of rebated oil (red diesel) at a self service facility.
We’re currently considering the option of transferring over to selling white diesel only. This will limit the amount of investment and on-going costs needed to operate the facility to meet the demands of the new legislation.
Just to assure customers, white and red diesel are no different apart from the red dye added. You should also not be concerned about our biodiesel (or FAME – Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) which has been reported to harm engines. The red diesel sold at Hafan Pwllheli has always had the same percentage biodiesel as white, up to 7%. Additives are regularly added to the diesel, especially over winter times, to minimise any issues.
The option of buying red diesel would still be available through our neighbouring harbours in Porthmadog, Aberdovey and Barmouth.
On-going discussions are taking place, and we’ll update you when appropriate.
Tony's Top Tips
Continuing with our new feature, promoted by Tony our Assistant Harbourmaster, here’s a few safety tips for the coming season:
- NO BBQ’s should be lit on any part of the marina. This is a significant fire risk and should not take place.
- Children should wear lifejackets on entering the pontoon area and these must be kept on at all times.
- Animals may only be brought into the marina provided that they are at all times kept under the close control of the owner and do not cause inconvenience in the form of noise, fouling of pontoons and communal areas or aggressive behaviour. Dogs must be kept on leads at all times.
